What's new

Every version, in plain words.

Coolzilla updates itself, and shows you these notes when it does. Every installer is also on GitHub.

Coolzilla 0.1.0Latest

The first Coolzilla: a calm, quick home for your servers, with pinned folders, ⌘K to jump anywhere and a proper answer to "this file already exists".

Try it

  • Open Coolzilla and click Import on the welcome screen to bring your FileZilla sites, keys and all.
  • Connect, open a folder you visit every day, and press ⌘D. It's now pinned under the site in the sidebar.
  • Press ⌘K, type a few letters of a folder or site, and press Return.
  • Drop a few files onto the server pane that already exist there. Pick Replace, Keep both or Skip for each, or let Newest wins decide.
  • Double-click a PHP file on the server. It opens in VS Code; change something, save, and click Upload on the card that appears.
  • Drag a file from your Mac onto a folder row on the server. Hold it there a moment and the folder opens.
  • Right-click a server folder and choose Link to a Mac Folder. Change a file on your Mac, save, and click Publish on the card that appears. Changed your mind? Click Undo.
  • Reconnect to a site with links: "Since you were last here" lists what you changed on your Mac, ready to review or publish.
  • Open Settings with ⌘, and try the Glass theme, or make the text bigger with ⌘+.

New

  • SFTP with a key file or your SSH agent. One connection per site carries everything, and it reconnects by itself when your network changes.
  • Bring your sites over from FileZilla's Site Manager, with their key files and start folders.
  • Edit server files in your own editor (VS Code, Cursor, Zed, Sublime, BBEdit, Nova or any app). Each save offers to go back to the server, and if someone changed the server copy in the meantime, Coolzilla stops and lets you compare.
  • Pin any folder with ⌘D, or pin a file: its folder opens with the file picked out.
  • Drop files onto a folder row to send them straight into that folder. Hold a drag over a folder to open it.
  • Rows glide in as a folder opens, transfers show their progress on the file itself, and fresh copies glow for a moment when they land.
  • ⌘K jumps to pinned and recent folders, files in the current folder, or another site. Start with / to type a path.
  • The path bar is clickable folder by folder. Click its empty part, or press ⌘L, to type a path.
  • Links: wire a file or folder on your Mac to one on a server. Coolzilla notices what you change on your Mac, even in the background. Review the changes line by line beside the server's copy and publish what you tick, or publish in one click. Every publish can be undone. Links only look one way, Mac to server, so a publish never comes back as a server change.
  • Opening a site with links shows what changed since you were last there, with Review and Publish right there.
  • Links can publish each save by themselves on dev and staging sites. Production always asks.
  • Inside a linked folder, the Mac pane follows you around the server.
  • Upload and download files and whole folders by dragging between the panes or from Finder.
  • Move files and folders on the server by dragging them onto a folder, or with Move To… in the right-click menu. Coolzilla always asks first, showing exactly where they're going, and a move can be undone. It never moves anything over a file of the same name.
  • Opening your linked copy on the Mac asks which app to use: the file's usual app, your code editor, or any other. It remembers your last choice for that kind of file.
  • The Review diff scrolls smoothly, however long the file, and its text can be selected and copied.
  • Go back with ⌘[ or ⌘←, and forward with ⌘] or ⌘→, as well as with your mouse's back button or a swipe. The arrow keys, Return and ⌘← ⌘→ keep working while the filter box has focus.
  • When files already exist, choose Replace, Keep both or Skip, per file or for all of them. Newest wins by default.
  • Production sites have a red edge, and ask before deleting or replacing a newer copy.
  • Uploads are written to a temporary name and renamed into place, so a live site never serves a half-uploaded file.
  • The Activity log explains what happened in plain words, with the server's own messages one click away.
  • Five themes: Graphite, Daylight, Glass (frosted, your desktop glows through), Midnight and Paper. Or let Coolzilla follow your Mac between Graphite and Daylight.
  • Five text sizes, a choice of fonts for names (SF Pro, Rounded, New York) and for paths (SF Mono, JetBrains Mono, Menlo).
  • Clear, helpful screens wherever there's nothing yet: first launch, empty folders, no matches, no transfers.
  • Coolzilla updates itself in place when a new version is out.
